Adopt-a-School Program Connects Units, Schools

The BSA’s Adopt-a-School program is an exciting new undertaking that will connect Scout packs, troops, and crews across the country with schools in their communities.

Participating Scouts then work—within clearly defined guidelines—to team up with school administrations and offer the volunteer services that most efficiently meet their school’s needs. With each unit offering their school a minimum one-year commitment, meaningful community relationships are built and significant changes will happen in the schools.

Exciting milestones have been set to strengthen the presence and progress of the Adopt-a-School program. By the fall of 2012, we plan to meet our goal of 15,000 adopted schools, and 25,000 by July 2013!

The hope at the heart of Adopt-a-School is to build strong, sustaining relationships with these schools, creating thousands of lasting community relationships across the U.S. Through committed volunteer efforts—from landscaping and cleanup outside the school building to Scouts’ active participation in school events throughout the year—the BSA will become a defined presence in improving our nation’s schools.

Great idea! This has been mentioned by volunteers for years. Any way to get a National sponsor to provide a free U.S. flag to the school when the partnership is signed?

How will troops in the same area determine which troop gets which school?

    • Daren McClellan says:

Why can’t several troops in one area work together to adopt the same school? Imagine all that could be done with that kind of boy power!

    • Dave Commish says:

Attend Roundtables and talk to one another about coordinating programs such as this.
