Don’t Get Caught in the Risk Zone! Help Your Volunteers Focus on Driving

Texting and phone use while driving takes the person’s mind off of the road. To help outline ways to alert the drivers in your units to the signs that could lead to an accident, the BSA’s Risk Management team has prepared a presentation on “The Risk Zone”—that place inhabited by dangerous, distracted, and drowsy driving.

There are three main forms of distractions:

Visual: Takes your eyes off the road.

Manual: Takes your hands off the steering wheel.

Cognitive: Takes your mind off what you are doing.

Texting and using your mobile phone while driving combine all three forms of distractions. Don’t get caught in The Risk Zone—focus your attention on driving until you reach your destination.
