Major Gifts Seminar Dates Announced

Is Journey to Excellence on your radar?  If you are striving to achieve the Gold level recognition, a new set of seminars can help.

The Boy Scouts of America Foundation will be conducting three Major Gift Seminars this year as follows:

Madison, Wisconsin: September 11-12, 2014 — Madison Marriott West
Boston: September 25-26, 2014 — Omni Parker House Hotel
Philadelphia: October 2-3, 2014 — Doubletree Suites by Hilton Philadelphia West

Attending one of these 2014 sessions is required to achieve the Gold Level of performance for Journey to Excellence item #3. In addition to increasing new endowment gifts of at least 5% of expenses or new gifts of at least 1% of expenses, councils are required to earn the Major Gifts Award. As part of the Major Gifts Award, a council must have at least one current staff professional and/or currently active volunteer who has within the last four years, attended a Major Gift Seminar conducted or approved by the BSA Foundation.

Beyond this, the Major Gift Seminar is a vital tool for Scouting professionals and volunteers to:

  • Create an ASK strategy for every major council donor
  • Develop the best gift strategies and non-cash gifts under the new Tax Act
  • Match your best donors with the best gifts for them
  • Engage your volunteers in, and making the case for, major gifts

Scout Executives, council volunteers, and staff with major gift duties will leave this seminar more effective, informed and comfortable with getting new, major gifts which can be critical for operating, capital and endowment.

We encourage you to send a key staff members with fundraising responsibilities.  Sending a volunteer can also be helpful to achieve board buy-in and create a professional/volunteer team approach to major gifts.

Please contact Diane Smith should you have any questions.
